~*~ Australiana ~*~ Once upon a time, before barcodes or BB as I prefer to call it, our common household & personal things were made in Australia, with care & attention to detail & quality.Early Australian business folk employed Australians & made Australian "stuff" for Australians, creating sturdy "lifestyle" wares, some of which are now iconic within our culture. But what about the "hidden" Australiana I ask? Such as knickers, petticoats, early designer clothes, plastic, war-time glass, shoes & jewellery? Only a smattering of high profile genres are really sought after & yakked about often. So I'm starting my own fan club/awareness group here, for Australian made addicts & tragics such as myself. Me ~ a gleaner since birth, well, I want to resurrect, lionise & re-acquaint new generations with these splendid ordinary wares stuff from early to Mid 20th Centur Australian manufacturers. The plethora & range of goods never ceases to amaze me as I research & move further towards specialising in our unique heritage collectables. I hope there are many others out there who share this passion, but dare not talk out loud about for fear of derision..tut tut...& perhaps, by reading this ditty & browsing the slideshows & shop categories, new insight may be gained into the variety & scope of goods which were once made right here in our own fair land, Australia. The collection I've dragged together on this page, are from my store & represent just a smidgin of what I have to offer. All slideshow items are in my store categories on the left over there. I've brought them together for impact, fun & renewed awareness, rather than hiding them in endless categories of generic clothing/plastic/tin/jewellery etc. So if you are searching for Australiana ~ please do browse this special page often. I shall be adding more pages, such as a sold items pages, where you can drool over pictures of things you missed out on (suffer) & perhaps snippets of information I have gleaned about defunct Aussie companies. The first slideshow presentation here is a selection of mid 20th century Australian studio ceramics, household china & glass & all are for sale of course.
