How to Determine Your Bra Size
Finding a great-fitting bra can sometimes seem as difficult as finding "Mr. Right". But it doesn't have to be that way. The problem is that many of us -- 70%, according to experts -- are wearing the wrong bra size. Follow these simple steps and discover how comfortable a properly fitted bra can be.
| MEASUREMENTS |
| Band |
Measure under your bust without a bra, using a cloth tape measure. Ensure that the tape measure is positioned around your back at the position the bra would normally be worn, and bring the ends of the tape measure directly under your bust. This measurement should feel as snug as your want the band of the of bra to feel when worn. If the number is odd, add 1" (one inch) to round up to the next even number (if you measured 33", add 1" to 34"). Bustline
Next, complete your measurements without your bra by taking the tape measure around the back as you did for the band measurement. Bring the tape measure across the largest part of the bust. This measurement should be comfortable, not so snug that the tape measure makes a dent in the breast tissue, but not loose enough that the tape measure falls. Write this measurement down. Note: never round this number up or down.
Calculating the Correct Size
Take the bustline measurement and deduct the band measurement. This difference will determine the cup size. For example, if the band measurement were 33", it would be rounded to 34", and if the bust measurement were 37", the difference is 3". According to the table below, we would recommend a 34C.

Try this on for size...
Knowing your band and cup sizes is a great place to start, but there can be quite a difference in how a 34B fits, depending on the manufacturer, cut, seaming, strap placement and more.
Bra Size Chart
Determine your Cup Size: Measure around your back and the fullest part of your bustline. Make sure you keep the tape measure snug (but not toosnug) and parallel to the ground . This is your over bust measurement. If your overbust measurement is 1 inch more than your band size your Bra Cup Size is A. Refer to the chart below:
1 inch more than your band size = A Cup
2 inches more than your band size = B Cup
3 inches more than your band size = C Cup
4 inches more than your band size = D Cup
5 inches more than your band size = DD or E Cup
6 inches more than your band size = DDD or F Cup
7 inches more than your band size = FF Cup
8 inches more than your band size = G Cup
9 inches more than your band size = H Cup
10 inches more than your band size = I Cup
11 inches more than your band size = J Cup
Tips for fitness.
Look for these signs to know you're getting a great fit.
- The band fits if it's level (not riding up or drooping) across your back. It should be snug, but not too tight for comfort, when you use the center hook(s).
- Arrange your breasts within the cups manually. Bend slightly at the waist and let the bust fall into the cup, then stand up. Reach under the strap, pull all of underarm flush into cup. Cups should be full and smooth, with no spillage.
- The underwire and center piece should be flat against your chest, not riding up on top of breast tissue.
- Your breasts should be secure, even when you lift your arms or jump. Don't guess -- really move around and see what happens.
- The band size/cup size combination is a flexible one. So if, for example, the band isn't snug enough, try a smaller band and a larger cup size. For example, if you try a 36B, and the cups are a good fit but the back is too large, a 34C should fit.
Troubleshooting.
Here are common bra problems and what to do about them:
- Wrinkled cups. Go down one cup size.
- Spilling breasts. Try a larger cup size. Or, choose a bra design that offers more coverage.
- Falling straps. First try adjusting the straps. If that doesn't work, your breasts are probably not filling out the tops of the cups, so try going down a cup size. Also, look for designs where the straps are located in the middle of the cup, not at the edges. Or try a racer-back style.
- Band rides up in back. Try a tighter hook or loosen the straps. If neither works, go down one band size. ap marks. Try loosening the straps. Otherwise, you probably need a more supportive bra, perhaps one with padded straps.
