THE BEST ICING!
I GET ASKED QUITE OFTEN WHATS THE BEST KIND OF ICING TO USE WITH THE KITS. MY SUGGESTION IS BUTTER ICING. ITS THE EASIEST TO WORK WITH. SOME LITTLE BITS DO NEED TO BE MADE WITH FONDANT ICING. BUT FOR THE MOST PART YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH JUST BUTTER ICING COLOURED WHICH EVER COLOUR YOU NEED. YOU CAN USE PLAIN OLD FOOD COLOURING OR YOU CAN GET THE COLOURING PASTES FROM MOST CAKE SHOPS.
I USUALLY MAKE A DOUBLE BATCH (RECIPE BELOW IS FOR A SINGLE BATCH- SO JUST DOUBLE QUANTITIES), THEN SPLIT THE WHITE ICING INTO A FEW BOWLS AND ADD THE COLOURING. THAT WAY WHEN I START I CAN JUST KEEP GOING AND DONT NEED TO STOP TO COLOUR OR MAKE MORE ICING.
THIS IS THE BUTTER ICING RECIPE I USE-
125g BUTTER, SOFTENED
1 1/2 CUPS (240g) ICING SUGAR
2tbls MILK
BEAT BUTTER IN SMALL BOWL WITH ELECTRIC MIXER INTIL AS WHITE AS POSSIBLE. GRADUALLY BEAT IN HALF THE ICING SUGAR, MILK AND THEN ADD THE REMAINING, BEAT UNTIL COMBINED. THEN ADD FLAVOUR AND COLOUR AS REQUIRED.
