Hair Extensions - Care Instructions
All hair extensions are 'dead hair' and needs help to assist it in having a 'real' healthy look and feel. Not only has the hair been cut off the head but it has been striped and re coloured to achieve the desired result. So like your natural hair, extensions have been damaged during the bleaching process and like your natural hair the lighter you go the more damage is caused and need to be replenished.
Hair extensions will damage and deteriorate without the proper care, (please refer to the care instructions below), but you can also rebuild and hydrate the extensions with the correct care and maintenance.
We suggest L’Oreal Kerastase or Matrix and finish with a Glisten Spray Gloss. These items can be purchase from any good Salon. Don’t be fooled by thinking you can use any salon shampoo as many contain protein which will strip the protective coating and cause the hair to feel brittle, dry and will damage the extensions. Heavy conditioners can also damage the hair.
DO NOT PULL your extensions INTO A TIGHT PONY TAIL as this will damage your own hair. Always start with a loose pony tail at the neck, then secure or twist up and secure.
DO NOT SUBMERGE YOUR HEAD UNDER WATER when SWIMMING. TRY NOT WETTING YOUR HAIR to much. CHLORINE, SALT AND SUN will DAMAGE your hair. Always wash your hair as stated after being at the BEACH, SPA, and SAUNA; or IN THE SUN for long periods.
DO NOT GO TO SLEEP WITH DAMP HAIR It's not good for your own hair, and it could break your extensions.
DO NOT leave the BOND-JOINS to DRY NATURALLY AFTER SHAMPOOING. Blow dry gently on a low setting to remove water from the joins and your natural hair near the scalp. You can let the extensions dry naturally
DO NOT use a treatment conditioner as the have many proteins in them that react badly with the protective treatments added to the extensions during the Manufacturing process, often leading to a rough dry feel that can then cause breakage. Always use a light weight conditioner and a smoothing/nourishing serum
Can They Be Coloured?
Pre bonded hair doesn’t colour as well because of the ‘protective coating’. This is to prevent damage during the application of the I-tip bond. we do not suggest colouring hair extensions anyway because it causes unwanted damage to the hair as there are no natural oils produced unlike your natural hair. Bleached or wavy styles have gone through a longer chemical process so can be damaged easier. If you do choose to colour the hair we would only suggest going one to two shades darker.
Can They Be Straightened?
Yes the extensions can be straightened and curled. We suggest using a protective spray. You should only use up to 140 degrees on any extensions. If you do use higher heat the hair will require further treatment to maintain healthy extensions and prevent extensive damage.
