Buying eyeglasses online is easy when you know how!

Want to buy frames online for your next pair of glasses and not really sure how to go about it? Please have a look at our guide below to buying glasses and some of the information you ought to know first.

What shape of eyeglasses is best for my face shape?

Facial colouring and face shape are two very important factors to consider when choosing appropriate frames. The first step is to determine your face shape (oval, round or rectangular). Frame shapes are chosen to decrease or de-accentuate the roundness of a round face, the squareness of a rectangular face, or the length or shortness of a face. To do this we recommend rectangular glasses for round faced people (avoid round glasses) and oval or round glasses for rectangular faced people (avoid rectangular frames). Long faces should avoid narrow glasses, short faces should avoid high glasses. Those with oval faces are not restricted.

Frame colouring should be chosen to match skin and hair tone, eye colour, favourite jewellery and clothing colours. The degree to which you deviate from this "rule" will show your interest in dressing "outside the box". For example, black plastic frames on a very light-skinned and fair haired person will make much more of a statement than silver frames would.

What the measurements quoted in a listing mean.

You will notice that in our listings measurements are given for each pair of glasses; lens width, lens depth, bridge, temple width or, as some other listings put it, arm to arm measurement. Below is an indication of what these measurements indicate. Some of these measurements can be variable. For instance the arm length can be altered slightly on some frames by removing the tip and cutting the arm and then refitting the tip. Rimless lenses are infinitely variable as there is no frame to restrict the size and half rim glasses can also take deeper lenses.

measurements

The first diagram above represents the lens width - usually measured from the bridge across the width of the lens.

The second diagram measures the depth of the lenses. For multifocal lenses the depth is usually 28mm or more. Rimless or half rims can have any depth of lens fitted.

The third diagram measures the bridge which will fit over the nose.

The fourth diagram shows the measurement from arm to arm (taking into account the slight spread caused by the hinges) = temple width.

And the last diagram shows the arm length (the part that hooks over your ears).

If you have a close look at your own glasses, on the arm or sometimes on the bridge are a series of numbers. For example, 50 then a small square then perhaps 18 then maybe 130. This translates as lens width 50mm, bridge 18mm, then arm length 130mm. If you aim to buy something similar to what you already have then you can't go far wrong.

Selecting a frame size.

There is no "right" size for you in eyewear frames, because just about any size frame can be made to fit you within reason. Your frame selection is a fashion decision - you may like large eye sizes, or small eye sizes, rectangular or oval - but the size of the frame does not affect your ability to use that frame with your prescription properly installed. One exception is that multifocal lenses require a vertical height from your pupil to the bottom of the lenses to be at least 20mm.

Also thicker lenses are more noticeable in thinner frames. These thicker lenses are not recommended for rimless frames as they can often cause the frames to be too "top heavy" and can slide down the nose more readily, and to loosen up over time.

How to buy frames online.

It is quite simple and not at all unusual to buy  frames from someone other than the optician who supplies your lenses. After all, if you already have some frames and just want to update the lenses the optician would be happy to put the new lenses in the old frames for you. You are NOT bound to pay the exorbitant prices demanded today in retail outlets for eyeglass frames. Buy them where you can, pay what YOU want to pay, and just see how much you can save!

And please remember if you buy your frames from us, Face Furniture Frames Online, we have a 30 day, no questions asked return policy if for ANY reason you are not completely satisfied.

We want you to be happy so you will come back to us and recommend us to your friends and family.

Thank you, and if you still have any queries or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us by email @ shonafenn@hotmail.com
