What is a duplicator? How does it work?   Duplicators are disc burning/writing products developed to give users an inexpensive solution to quantity duplication of CD and DVD discs as well as other disc formats newly introduced in the market. Duplicators are not limited to just disc media but new systems are constantly developed to support other types of blank media, such as USB drives and SD cards. Duplicators, also known as copy towers, are complete, stand-alone systems that do NOT require software or computers to operate. A duplicator consists of 3 major components: a source drive, target drive(s), and a duplication controller card. The controller card is the heart and brain of the drive that controls the data flow between the source and the target(s). The operation is as simple as just pressing a button. Even the advanced options can be easily accessed with few button pushes. The included manual will provide instructions for even the least tech-savvy user to access and operate its entire functions. Duplicators can burn a full CD in approximately 2 to 4 minutes per session/cycle. A full DVD disc can burn in approximately 5 to 8 minutes per session/cycle (at 8X to 16X DVD burning speeds). The speed of duplication varies depending on the blank media used, size of the original master disc, and options/functions chosen for the duplication run/process. Disc duplicators do NOT burn any copy protected material AT ALL. Hard Drive Option   A hard drive (HDD) can be added and built-in for storage and better performance. A hard drive will increase the burning speed and stability of duplication. The hard drive will be divided into smaller partitions where each partition can hold information for one source disc. The number of partitions available always depends on the size of the HDD. Users can access the hard drive from the controller panel to load, name, delete, and select a partition. If you have multiple originals which need to be duplicated time after time, the built-in HDD option is definitely recommended. The hard drive option is NOT available for 1 burner duplicator towers. USB Connection   With this external interface connection, one of the burners on the duplicator can be used as an external optical drive from your computer. Using your computer, you can then create a master disc from the duplicator. We highly recommend this option for users who do not have an optical burner on their computer. Compared to the standard USB connection, the SMART USB connection is able to offer DIRECT communication from the duplicator HDD to a computer HDD.
