Most people are aware that a Diabetic has a problem with Sugar and also that Insulin plays a part in storing excess Sugars in the Body.

There are many natural products and drugs that are geared to increase Insulin Levels in the body and so there is an assumption that one will have a better chance of achieving a Body with Sugar levels close to normal by increasing Insulin levels either by stimulating the pancreas to produce more or by taking Insulin.

A Type 2 Diabetic  has normally a high level of Insulin in the body due to the fact that above normal sugar readings automatically result in demands on the pancreas to keep producing Insulin. I realized that perhaps the game should be to reduce the Insulin Levels in the Body and not to try and increase the Insulin Levels. A person becomes a Diabetic Type 2 that is when the body becomes insensitive to Insulin – and, the definition for diabetes should perhaps be better known as having  a body which is Insulin insensitive.

There have been many studies on the effects from having high insulin levels in the body. It is the High Insulin levels that cause problems associated with Diabetes. It seems logical then that a Diabetic should try and reduce Insulin in the Body instead of taking drugs or natural herbs which increase insulin production or taking a greater dose of insulin.

A Type 1 Diabetic should eat food that enables him to reduce the Insulin Intake and maintain his blood sugar level as close to normal as possible. A high Insulin intake would normally make it difficult for a Type 1 Diabetic to keep his blood sugar level close to normal.

Obviously everyone understands that higher than normal sugar levels are harmful but few realize that consistently high insulin levels is the real cause for all the damage caused by a diabetic condition.

So when one is diagnosed to be a Type 2 Diabetic the thought process should be how can we lower the Insulin level in the body and not how do we increase the insulin level so that the excess sugars can be stored for later.

Why do we eat sugar if we don’t need it or  cause our bodies to do unnecessarily extra work in having to store the excess that is not consumed in the short term. Sugar is a fuel but it is a quick fix and should not be taken in excess. If the body receives too much sugar ( ie more than it needs ) the excess is either stored for later or excreted. If the body is insensitive to Insulin then a greater amount of insulin is required to store the excess sugar and if not stored it appears in your urine. In the meantime the high insulin levels in the body start causing all sorts of problems.

It seems that whenever we eat there is an automatic demand for insulin to cope with excess sugars resulting from the natural need for sugar to help in the digestion of foods. The diabetic body has obviously become insensitive to insulin due to the fact that its insulin levels have been maintained high to cope with sugar created as a result of continuous eating throughout the day. It is obvious then that to reduce the insulin levels in the body we need to stop eating. Alas, we need food and really we normally cannot go without food for too long without feeling enormous hunger pains. Perhaps  we could aim to eat less sugar . This would be fine but how many know that foods which do not look like or taste sweet do change into sugar when digested. Bread for example changes into sugar within seconds.  Rice, Soy flour and fruit all contain sugar. We do need to eat something for we do need fuel. Our ancestors did not have our problem for they did not have flour, potatoes and fruit was seasonal and really could not be depended upon as fuel for every day. The apple tree possibly gave a couple of weeks of fresh apples and then no more whereas modern man has apples coming from overseas or interstate so that he could easily have an apple a day for the whole year.

The food we eat is composed of carbohydrates, protein and fat. If we aspire to reduce the carbohydrate part then obviously the food we eat would contain more protein or fat or both. The healthy way of eating is presumed to require each meal to be composed of 60% Carbohydrate , 25 to 30% protein and the remainder 10 to 15% Fat.

I was advised to go on a low fat complex carbohydrate diet and plenty of exercise. On this Diet I was always hungry even after eating and my body was always unhappy. Exercise was very exhausting and my body seemed to always be in pain. I consequently drank heaps of water to try and subdue my hunger pains and obviously I had broken sleep for I could not sleep more than 2 or 3 hours without needing to empty my overfull  bladder. I was required to lose weight so that my body would be more efficient and I did lose weight . I went from 84 kgs down to 68 kgs in about 4 months . I  felt awful and more useless physically each day. I would fall asleep after breakfast and  I was always very tired.

I realized that the exercise was an essential part of the Diet because I needed to consume  all the sugar that I was producing from the food I was eating. I was not exercising to get fit but really I was exercising to consume excess sugars.

The complex carbohydrates that I was eating were turning into sugar at most within an hour . Every time I ate I introduced 60% of sugar from  my food into my body. So if I ate a  500grams of food 60% or 300grams would be sugar. My Diabetic body could not cope with all this sugar .

Is it sensible that the Diabetic associations all recommend that a Diabetic should have meals containing   60%  of carbohydrates or sugar.?

Do we really need carbohydrates at all?!.

If we have too much sugar the body normally ends up storing a major part in the form of saturated fat. Why saturated fat – possibly because saturated fat cannot go rancid and can be changed into fuel known as ketones at a seconds notice. It seems that the human body can create its own fuel from fat reserves – is there a need for a quick fix like sugar ?!. As I said before sugar is a fuel – a quick fix – but, if we have a body with too much sugar then why put more in. This is crazy . I am a diabetic – my body contains more sugar in the blood than normal – do I need to add more sugar and to also give my body the headache of having to store the excess not immediately used.

It is obvious that we do not realize that a Pizza or a  bread roll is sugar but alas once you are a diabetic any food in excess will also increase your sugar reading. In fact  a salad made from a head of lettuce  can increase  your sugar level because the Brain responds to a feeling of fullness in the tummy by demanding the liver to create more sugar to help in the digestion of the big meal of lettuce.

If you are a diabetic check your sugar reading before and after consuming just one head of lettuce - you will be surprised. I have at times checked my sugar level 50 times in one day. I have gained an understanding of the effects of most foods on my body and sugar level. I have also realized that tension , stress and excitement also pushes up my sugar level.

It seems that the solution should be to try and keep calm and organize your day so that you will not create tension and at night try not to watch too many exciting movies. You can find a similar analogy with adrenalin .In times of need adrenalin kicks in to provide energy to aid in escaping a difficult situation. Imagine if adrenalin kicked in every 5 minutes of the day – sooner or later the body would be insensitive to adrenalin and when the need arises and adrenalin should be needed the body would not recognize the emergency and provide little assistance. Also it is important to realize that too much adrenalin will be a poison to a body much the same way as too much insulin. Insulin insensitivity is known as Type 2 Diabetes – Adrenalin insensitivity is not as common and probably has not been given a name.

I am 56 years old now - I was diagnosed to be Diabetic Type2 when I was in my early 40's. I had access to the computer and the internet and began studying Diabetes and Diets. It has taken a long time to work out What to do for each Diet has testimonials that profess it to be the best. I  had to work out what to do on my own . I was desparate to improve my health and decrease the chance of destroying my body from not controlling my diabetes. I wish someone would have come to me 10 years ago with my few pages of notes about what to do when you are a diabetic. I am going to start selling my idea by auction. The Successful Bidder will receive these notes NOT a BOOK as an attachment via email.

Please NOTE that what I have for you are brief Notes Not a Book which explain very simply what you need to do. I do recommend Books I have read that have assisted  me to arrive at the Diabetic knowledge I have today. Please don't Bid if you feel that brief Notes cannot provide you the answer to becoming less Diabetic. My Brief Notes will not cure your Diabetes - they are meant to help you become a happy Diabetic.
